As the latter, we are amazed and humbled at the manner in which \u201cthey prayed.\u201d \u201cThey\u201d prayed through illnesses, storms, misunderstandings, abuses, births, deaths, successes, failures. They prayed when the sun shone and when the storms raged. They prayed when the rain fell and when spiritual drought threatened to overwhelm their lives. They prayed with tears, with joy, with, with supplications, with gratitude, with praise, with faith.<\/p>\n
All very well, you say, but what is meant by \u201cthey\u201d? The answer is simple\u2013men and women of varying ages, denominations, and cultures\u2014fathers, mothers, children, pastors, missionaries\u2014people like you and I. However, if you happen to be a mother or father or grandparent or child and you are pretty sure to be one of them at least, then \u201cHow They Prayed Volume One\u201d is a good starter. In it, you will read of people like you and I who prayed for family members\u2014simple-hearted people, working people, ordinary people\u2014and saw God answer. Or if you have been called to public ministry of some kind or other, then \u201cHow They Prayed Volume Two\u201d might just be the book for you for in it are examples of God\u2019s servants who interceded for the people in their care. They asked God to send a blessing and they prayed till He did just that. As for \u201cHow They Prayed Volume Three,\u201d it has particular interest for those of you on the mission-field, either at home or abroad, who wish to see God work in reviving power. You will read in this volume of how God sent various revivals in answer to the prayer of missionaries and pastors.<\/p>\n
Although the three volumes in this \u201cHow They Prayed\u201d series are distinct from each other, they all have the same message\u2014pray till God answers; pray till you are changed; pray at all times; pray in all places. This was the desire of Edwin and Lillian Harvey as they penned these books. \u201cNever,\u201d they write in the foreword to Volume Three, \u201cin the history of the world has there been an era of such great opportunity. May we give ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word!\u201d<\/p>\n
