It came to my heart with a lesson,
\nAs the day was beginning to dawn,
\nAs the day, with its cares and trials
\nAnd its blessings, was drawing on,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Jesus, the world\u2019s Redeemer,
\nArose before it was day,
\nAnd, feeling His human weakness
\nFound in secret a place to pray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not even the three disciples
\nWho followed the Lord the best,
\nWere there in His sanctuary;
\nThey slumbered as did the rest,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And only the stars of heaven
\nWith, perchance, the silvery moon,
\nLooked down upon their Creator,
\nWho would suffer and die so soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Jesus, the King of glory,
\nCommander of hosts on high,
\nMust petition for daily succor,
\nWhat about such a worm as I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I rest at ease in the morning,
\nBefore me a puzzling day;
\nI know not how I shall meet it;
\nBut my Savior arose to pray. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How foolish our human blindness!
\nHow hard are our hearts of stone!
\nWhy rise we not in the morning,
\nAnd pray to our God alone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s help for the daily duties,
\nAnd spiritual strength and power,
\nThere\u2019s victory for the conflict,
\nTo be gained in the morning hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we walk in the Master\u2019s footsteps,
\nAnd follow the path He trod,
\nWe must find, in the early morning,
\nA quiet place with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We must pour out our heart before Him,
\nAnd let Him into the life,
\nIf we ever shall be the winner
\nOf victory over strife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
